AGE
How we are addressing age issues
The NHS had included age as a focus for its equalities work. Issues for older people would include reducing isolation, tackling poverty, elder abuse and gender based violence. For example, there have been successful campaigns on increasing attendance allowance uptake among older people.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde aims to adopt an approach to service provision which is based on needs rather than age. However, there are circumstances where a targeted approach to specific age groups is appropriate both when providing services and when consulting and involving individuals.

For example, young people have been actively involved in the planning and design of the proposed new children’s hospital. Sexual health services through the Sandyford Initiative have been designed to ensure that they are accessible to young people and have the confidence of young people.
NHSGGC works in partnership with Local Authorities to plan and deliver services and engage with particular groups, such as older people. There are new developments to support vulnerable adults, through the development of Adult Protection Committees.
Overall service planning is increasingly taking account of the changing age profile of the population and the impact this will have on demand for services.
